Exhibited at Workshopped_001 will be three new designs that continue to strive for balance - to create something original that addresses aesthetic, functional and spiritual concerns whilst addressing issues associated with technological change and economic and environmental factors. While the forms, I use often appear simple the design details are often developed and sophisticated. Line, rhythm and texture, integrity in materials, structure and finish, and a high concern for a function that reflects contemporary lifestyles, direct my design process. Unique client collaborations provide exciting and wide ranging challenges that offer feedback and impart an always interesting reflection of society. The 'Strip' dining table was conceived as a table that could be produced economically (in terms of both cost to the environment as well as the buying public) without compromising quality. Each table is made from a single sheet of plantation grown hoop pine plywood and solid timber veneer. The 'Studio' table was developed as a multi-functional response to the increasing pressure on interior living spaces in Sydney and other densely populated cities around the world. Materials include plantation grown hoop pine plywood, Corian, laser cut stainless steel plate and stainless steel tubing. The modular side/coffee table was again developed to provide flexibility for contemporary urban lifestyles. As a unit, it consists of fundamental geometric elements that are further strengthened through their relationship with each other. These individual elements may be separated to provide more varied use and reveal further graphic formations.
