DESIGN 036 PENDANT LIGHT AND LICOLA DESK LAMP

7A. Pendant light

DESIGN INTENT: Most large scale pendant lights available in Australia are imported and as a result are quite expensive.  They also frequently have long lead times and are difficult to customize. The 036 Pendant series provides a range of over sized pendants at a substantially lower price point.  The nature of the design not only allows for a quick lead time, but also offers the customer a much larger scope for customization.

INSPIRED BY: The benefits of a locally designed and manufactured product are further enhanced by the ability of the consumer to easily and fully recycle the light at the end of it's useful life. The pendant is designed to ship flat with assembly on site, so the manufacturing and shipping procedures are kept to a bare minimum.  A feature of the design is to allow a certain amount of customization for each customer which benefits from reasonably small local production runs

MATERIALS: The components can easily be produced by standard sheet material fabricating suppliers.  All parts are laser cut from raw sheet materials. .  The main chassis rings are marine grade aluminium with a chrome plated finish.  The blades are laser cut acrylic available in a range of colours.

7B. Licola desk lamp

DESIGN INTENT: The Licora desk light will target the high end lighting market.  It's striking aesthetic and exotic finishes help to achieve it's high end status and helps to distinguish it from the well known imported European designs. The Licora desk lamp seeks to capture some of this market.

INSPIRED BY: The aim to find a manufacturer of lighting products who can produce enough volume to allow the Licora desk lamp to retail at the correct price point. Whilst the assembled light may resemble a luxury product, the manufacturing technique for the light is actually quite simple. 

MATERIALS: The metal frame and brackets are simple designs that can be produced by local metal workers.  Similarly the lamp shade is manufactured from a laminated sheet of imported wood veneer sheeting and black HIP plastic sheeting.  The shade is then laser or cnc cut to shape .
