Company: Simon Ancher Design
Exhibit Name: Chocoholic
Design Intent: Chocoholic is intended to be viewed and experienced from all angles, not just from the front. The low back and wide armrests, which double as side tables, encourage casual seating positions.
Description: Chocoholic is a generous three-seater couch, with a low back and wide armrests. Unlike most couches in the market place, Chocoholic is predominately solid timber. Made from 35mm x 200mm Blackwood boards the couch has an inherent weight and volume, however a softening of the edges and rounding off of corners, reducers the visual mass. The seating component floats off the ground supported by the boxlike forms at either end. Chocoholic is also available as a two seater.
Production: A split process of fine furniture making (where by the timber component is completely finished) and then the individually sprung seating and back upholstery are inserted. At present, a number of the Chocoholic couches are being produced for an exclusive Hobart restaurant.
Market: Chocoholic is ideal for corporate office spaces; restaurants, foyers and open plan living arrangements.
