Company: InDestudio
Exhibit Name: C 1
Design Intent: Design inspiration for this chair evolved through focusing on critical criteria for which I wished to incorporate into the design of a new chair.
They were:
[a] to design a chair that was aesthetically pleasing to a broad target demographic and that remained both contemporary and classic,
[b] that it should demonstrate a high degree of detailing and skill in its manufacture and therefore quality, but
[c] was mass producable through contemporary production techniques,
[d] was a unique addition to the broad collection of dining chairs available in the market place,
[e] and would be stackable if possible.
Description: This chair is designed around a solid timber framework that combines expressed joinery and laminated timber, and incorporates an upholstered plywood shell seat and back.
Production: Made to order at present, but with higher production potential.
Market: Quality would require a mid to high-end price point.
You should know: InDestudio, my design office and workshop for prototyping and custom manufacture, has the ability to develop a range of products. It is in this direction that I see my practice developing along side the diverse custom design work that includes at present custom interior and furniture design for the ground floor restaurant and bar of the Kirketon Hotel, and custom product displays for Avant Card.
