Company: inkandmetal
Exhibit Name: Wings2005 production range
Design Intent: To develop a range of low volume production jewellery that retains the essential characteristics of my exhibition work: playful, precise, captivating. The work is derived from a collection of moth specimens, photographed at CSIRO's entomology department. I was inspired by the rare and precious qualities of the specimens as well as the way they were collected and stored.
Description: Materials: Anodised titanium, sterling silver and stainless steel wire.Dimensions: Variable. Construction: Fabricated from sheet titanium and riveted with silver rivets.
Production: The titanium profiles are wire cut from sheet and hand finished. They are anodised using an electro-chemical process. The parts are riveted together with silver rivets. For the rings, the inner ring is fabricated from silver sheet and machined to size. A custom tool is used to flare out each side of the silver ring to 45 ° , capturing the titanium.
The pendant wire is captured between the profiles and unclips at one side to create the catch. This process has a low production volume - runs up to 10 units.
Market: Mid-range contemporary jewellery. Available in limited numbers and from specialist retailers.
You should know: My work, which encompasses jewellery , lighting and small objects, is of an intimate nature and is often based on the idea of using a mechanism to engage the concept of play. Interactive and tactile qualities are essential elements of my work, as is technical and aesthetic innovation. I have recently relocated to Melbourne to undertake a mentorship with contemporary jeweller Blanche Tilden.
